LYON / BERGEN. 5 days in Norway, in particular in Bergen. Departure 23th may, return 27th may.

23 MAY DAY ONE :

 


My travelling from Lyon in France to the Norway
 :

 

I took a train at Lyon Part Dieu to Paris Gare de Lyon, departure at 07h00, TGV 06690, arrived at 08h57. The trip cost 44€.

I took a bus between Paris Gare de Lyon to Paris-Orly. The trip cost around 3€.

I took a plane at Paris-Orly to Oslo-Gardermoen, departure at 10h30, Terminal: S, Flight DY1493, arrived at 13h00. Next I took a plane between Oslo-Gardermoen and Bergen, departure at 15h50, Flight DY648, arrived at 16h45.

The trip cost 227, 30 €

 

 

My travelling from the Bergen airport in Norway to Bergen city:

 

I took a bus in Bergen airport to the stop Bergen Busstasjon. This bus is called the flybussen, and the trip takes 20 minutes.

The trip cost 85 NOK (around 9, 78€)

 

 

What and where I eat:

 

Dinner : At 20h00 until 22h00 on a typical Norwegian restaurant called Bryggeloftet & Stuene

I ate a “grilled fillet of Reindeer with a creamy wild game sauce” and I drunk water.

This establishment was a popular place to eat, with a traditional interior and a nice atmosphere. It offered a large choice of fishes and dishes which are based on Norwegian traditions. I remember about the warm welcome.

Accommodation 1°:

 

I slept in the City Apartment Hotel for two nights. In this guest house / pension all rooms have private bathrooms and there is a common kitchen, because breakfast was not included and the hotel didn’t have a restaurant. It was an economic, simple and charming hotel located in the center of Bergen.

Activities
:

 

 *1° At 18h30 until 19h00 I went to the Bergen's Tourist Information Centre.

It was in The Fresco Hall situated in Vågsallmenning Square. The building was superb, and here I found information about what to do in Bergen and generally in Norway. I realised that Bergen is a city full of history and culture. Moreover I took some free brochures about Fjord Norway. Next I bought my fjord tour tickets for a trip of the fjords.

*2°At 23h until 01h00 I saw the magical midnight sun. In fact in Northern Norway, during the summer months the sun never sets, creating the concepts of day and night become blurred. The perpetual daylight was surreal. “The light of the midnight sun gives the landscape a magical and romantic dimension.” It was a unique and fantastic experience, I advice you to experience it.

Shopping
:

 

In the tourist information, I have bought the Bergen Card, which is very practical. The Bergen Map is a detailed map of Bergen city centre.

24 MAY DAY TWO:

What and where I eat
:

 

Breakfast: At 09h00 until 09h30 on a traditional “bakery / coffee bar” called “Baker Brun”.

I ate the Bergen speciality "skillingsboller" (Cinnamon Buns) and I drunk a coffe.

Lunch: At 13h10 until 13h30 on a coffee bar at the heart of the Kløverhuset shopping centre, called Dinnertime lunch & coffee bar”.

I ate a simple sandwich with ham and cheese but very good (!!) and drunk water and coffee. In fact there was a lot of kind of coffee.

Dinner: At 21h00 until 01h00 on a coffee / bar / nightclub called “House of ERA”.

I ate a salad with a lot of ingredients (fish, tomato, cucumber, chive…), and an ice cream taste melon. I drunk water and one beer (but alcohol is very expensive!) One beer costs between 29nok in a night club and 80nok in a restaurant.

It was a place very pleasant and warm. Moreover the dance floor gives a good atmosphere, and I could dance. Everyone’s having a good time here.

*1° At 10h00 until 10h30 I went to Bergen og Omland Havnevesen, that is to say the Port of Bergen. The Port of Bergen or the Cruise Capitol in Bergen is one of the largest cruiseports in Europe.

*2° At 10h40 until 11h30 I went to the Torget I Bergen, which is next to the Bergen Port. It was the Bergen's famous Fish Market. Here I had tasted a lot of kind of fish, and I saw a lot of variety of fruits, vegetables, flowers....

*3° At 12h00 until 13h00 I went to the funicular called  Fløibanen. Is situated on 8 minutes ride to top of Mount Fløyen (altitude 320 m), so I walked on mountains. On this funicular and on the Mount Floyen, I saw a magnificent view over

*4° At 14h00 until 14h50 I went to the festival called “Festspillene Nordiske Impulser I Bergen”. It’s an International Festival in Bergen. The Bergen International Festival presents different art: music, literature, theatre, dance, opera and visual art; with more than 150 events in 15 days. Number of visitors expected: 30 000 (indoor events) 20 000 (outdoor events). The show was intituled “Drop in concerts”, and it was the students of the Grieg Academy who made the show.

It took 45mn and it was free concerts. In the principal place for concerts in Bergen : the Grieghallen, built to pay homage to Edvard Grieg, a classical compositor from Bergen. There is inside a concert room, and also a big banquets room.

 

Shopping:

 

A famous and good shopping street is Bryggen, so I did shopping in this street! I found a lot of shops in Bryggen, most of them were tax free shop.  In a shop called Nilssen på Bryggen, I have bought some hand knit glove. In this shop there was equally sweaters made from famous Norwegian patterns, but it was too expensive!!!

25 MAY DAY THREE: 


What and where I eat

 

Breakfast: At 09h30 until 09h40 on a bakery in Bergen city.

I ate a “boller” (typical from Norway).

It cost around 8,66 NOK (around 1€)

 

Lunch: At 12h00 until 13h00 on a typical stand of fish and chips.

I ate calamari's with French fries and home made sauce, and drunk water. This stand was situated in the center of the Fish Market.

Dinner : At 21h30 until 01h30 on a typical Norwegian restaurant called “The Dickens complex”. Situated just near the “blå rok” (blue stone), wich is actually a gift from France to Norway.

I ate on starter a “Bergensk fiskesuppe” (a fish soup typical from Bergen), on main course a “Dampet brosme” (steamed tusk), on dessert Hjemmelaget ostekake (cheesecake) and I drunk water.

This establishment is an ideal meeting area, is the perfect place if you “want to see and be seen”. Moreover after dinner I went to the pub of the Dickens complex, called Kontoret (“the office”). This pub was famous because in this place there was the Bergen  largest selection of bottled beers and Scottish single malt whisky. Next I went to the Bar Night of the Dickens place, in this bar there was a DJ and a fun atmosphere. I was very entertaining.

Accommodation 2°:


I slept in the “Riplegården Sommerpensjon” for two nights. In this guest house / pension there was equally a common kitchen, but bathroom was shared between two rooms, I didn’t really like that. I'm not used to share my bathroom. However there was a big balcony with a great view over the fjord and it was fantastic! Thus this guest house had a beautiful view and it was so quiet. Besides the pension was nearby a bus station, so on few minutes I was in the city center, which was at 4 kilometers.  Moreover there was a big sauna…!!!

Activities:

 

*1°At 11h00 until 12h00 I went to Bryggens Museum. Bryggen was on the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. Moreover this year was the 25th anniversary of Bryggen’s inclusion on UNESCO’s World Heritage. Bryggens city was characteristic by its charm and its atmosphere. I saw small wooden houses and this city offered a large variety of public sightseeing. Bryggens Museum is based on finds made during the archaeological excavations at Bryggen between 1955 and 1972. It showed the foundations of the city's oldest (12th).

*2°At 14h00 until 21h00 I went to the fjord tour. I have explored the fjords, and it was a very relaxing afternoon with a very nice boat trip in the beautiful coastal, fjords and mountains landscapes.

Shopping:

 

In a shop called Bryggen Handel, I have bought “a traditional” Norwegian souvenir, that is to say a fluffy elk.

26 MAY DAY FOUR:

 



What and where I eat
:

 

Breakfast: At 09h00 until 09h30 on a “patisserie / eatery”, called Kløver Café”.

I ate a breakfast with bread, butter, jam, cakes, tea, coffee, orange juice… while I looked Bryggen and the Fish Market, because the view was magnificent.

*1°At 14h00 until 15h00 I went to the Old Bergen Museum. It was an open-air museum where I saw some wooden homes. Theses houses showed Bergen architecture and interiors in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was very interesting.

 *2°At 17h00 until 19h00 I took the "Bergens-Expressen". It was a train which maked a guided visit of Bergen. It was very entertaining and I enjoyed the view.

27 MAY DAY FIVE:



What and where I eat
:

 

Breakfast: At 9h on a bakery in Laksevag.

I ate a shokolade (typical from Bergen).

It cost around 8,65 NOK (1€)

In a shop specializing in Viking-inspired souvenirs, called Viking, I have bought a small figurine of Viking.

My travelling from Bergen city to the Bergen airport in Norway:

 

I took a bus in Laksevag to the airport of Bergen. This bus is called the flybussen and the trip takes 20 minutes. The trip cost 85 NOK (around 9,78€).



My travelling from the airport in Bergen to Lyon
:

 

I took a plane at Bergen to Oslo-Gardermoen, departure at 11h20, Flight DY611, arrived at 12h15. Next I took a plane between Oslo-Gardermoen and Paris-Orly, departure at 16h20, Flight DY1494, arrived at 18h45.

The trip cost 119,20 €

I took a bus between Paris-Orly to Paris Gare de Lyon. The trip cost around 3€.

I took a train at Paris Gare de Lyon to Lyon Perrache, departure at 21h54, TGV 06635, arrived at 00h03. The trip cost 44€.
